Prayer and Liturgy

Liturgy and worship are central to our Catholic tradition and at Sacred Heart the children have many opportunities to pray, reflect, celebrate and worship together. We believe this gives both staff and pupils a sense of belonging and community.

Occasions for worship include: Masses (for whole school, small groups and special occasions) weekly Key Stage assemblies, class assemblies and class based collective worship. Each act of worship is shared by encouraging the children to gather, listen, respond and go forth. All children, from all faith communities, are actively involved in the Collective Worship and are encouraged to take leadership roles.

We have special links with other local Catholic schools and together the children are given the opportunity to take part in both an Advent and Lenten Prayer Trail. These “mini retreats” have proven to be beautiful and prayerful opportunities for the children to prepare for the birth of Jesus and the sorrow and joy of Easter.

We take every opportunity to extend a warm welcome to all members of the wider school Community and parents are often invited to join us for Assemblies, Harvest and Easter Celebrations and Mass.

Our Link with the Parish of Sacred Heart

Sacred Heart RC primary school serves the parish of Sacred Heart, Moreton. We encourage our children to be active and responsible citizens. We encourage links with the Parish and local community. This is achieved in many ways:

·         Our Parish Priest, Fr John Feeney is a regular visitor to our school celebrating Mass and leading us in times of collective worship.

·         Visiting the Parish Church to develop children’s understanding of particular aspects of R.E.

·         Children visit Church for opportunities to enhance The Way, the Truth and the Life programme.

·         Collecting harvest gifts for the Forum Housing Association’s “Resident Harvest Share”. The food provided going to young people taking part in engagement activities or for new young people moving in to new accommodation.
